As an early contributor to e-learning, Cisco Systems Inc. first initiated a program to design practical, cost-effective networks for schools in 1993. In 1997, the Cisco Networking Academy was established with 64 educational institutions in seven states. Today, the Networking Academy has spread to more than 145 countries and all 50 U.S. states. Over 260,000 students have enrolled at more than 9,800 academies
The Cisco Networking Academy is part of the JJC Computer Information Office Systems Department (CIOS), and is located at 1125 W. Romeo Road, Romeoville, IL 60446. Ram Raghuraman is CIOS chair. Bill Stroud and Adolph Scheiwe are CIOS advisers.

Joseph Sullivan earned a Master's degree in applied computer science and has significant work experience as an engineer in the telecommunications industry. Sullivan has led the development of authentication and voice-over Internet protocol technologies and is the innovator of multiple international patents in the field. He brings his wealth of industry experience and enthusiasm for Cisco training into JJC's Cisco Network Academy Program.
